CCN Extended Training.
Our customers have informed us of a requirement for some operatives to receive
an extended training programme for ACS. This may include cases where time
away from the trade, a relevant NVQ has been completed at college but the
syllabus may not have covered gas work or extra time may be required.
We have now designed a five-day course to address this shortfall.
The course programme will run for five days (Monday to Friday) from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. A blend of theoretical and practical tasks will be undertaken during this
period giving the candidate an excellent introduction/further advancement into
Gas. Progress throughout the week will be monitored to enable both Gas Flare
Ltd. and the respective employer to arrive at a decision regarding the employee’s
suitability to attempt the Core Gas Safety Assessment (CCN1).
The course is suitable for a person who wants a basic knowledge prior to
obtaining practical experience or to someone who has limited experience with
aspirations to taking the ACS Assessment at a later date.
A brief outline of the syllabus is listed below.
1. Ventilation
2. Appliance components
3. Tightness testing
4. Purging
5. Standing/Working pressures
6. Gas rates
7. Unsafe situations
8. Gas regulations
9. British Standards
10.Flues
Phase Test
It may be deemed necessary for some candidates to undertake a phase test
(consisting of a practical and a theory assessment). This is carried out to prove
competence and confidence before any ACS assessment attempt. A fee is required
for these tests (see Booking Form page 6).
Job Diary (for NVQ)
A job diary detailing on-the-job gas work carried out under the supervision of a
Gas Safe qualified engineer will need to be produced and initially submitted within
6 months. There is a verification charge included in the price, which will allow
for the first consultation with an assessor. The contents of the job diary will
need to be approved prior to carrying out any gas assessments. If additional
consultations are required further charges may apply.
If you have any queries or require more details as to the suitability of candidates
for this course please do not hesitate to contact us.
